Please allow me to extend to you a warm salute at the beginning of a new academic year. I have the honor of being the new chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, following Professor John Dagenais’ successful tenure in that capacity. My area of research is late medieval and early modern Spain, but I also have an abiding interest in the links between Spain and Latin America. Most importantly, I assume this position with an unfailing commitment to do the best I can on behalf of the Department.
We would like for you to think of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese as your home, and we would like to see you come to visit us as often as you can. I am usually in my office and would welcome the opportunity to meet you and to discuss the present state and future of the Department. Just come right in!
Come and join us in making this Department an embracing community dedicated to service and learning.
Cordially,
Teo Ruiz
