Basque

Basque is spoken as a first and second language in the western corner of the Pyrenees Mountains, in the north of Spain and the southwest of France. Our student-centered, proficiency-oriented courses are designed to help students achieve communicative competence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as cultural competence.

The Department regularly offers the following courses:

SPAN 12A: Basque Language and Culture I

SPAN 12B: Basque Language and Culture II

SPAN 12C: Basque Language and Culture III

Placement

Most students will begin with the first course in the sequence. If you have previous knowledge of Basque, you should contact the instructor for a recommendation.
