Translated by Patrícia Lino, Pequenas Glórias (Little Alleluias, 2025) brings together three books by Mary Oliver: A Folha e a Nuvem (The Leaf and the Cloud, 2000), O Que Sabemos (What Do We Know) (2002), and Vida Longa (Long Life, 2004). As Natalie Diaz states in the preface, these volumes form a “trinity” in the poet’s mature work. The mix of verses, prose poems, and essays also reflect how Oliver’s poetry and thought developed throughout her life. Far more than concerning herself with the boundaries between genres, her attention was always devoted to questioning what we are doing here, with both feet firmly planted on this round planet.
