José Luiz Passos, professor of Luso-Brazilian Literatures and Cultures and director of the Center for Brazilian Studies, recently published a variety of works that allow readers to “viscerally relate to historical events and personages.”
In the following publications “Marinheiro só [The Lonely Sailor],” the novels “O Marechal de Costas [The Iron Marshal]” and “Antologia fantástica da República brasileira [A Fantastical Anthology of the Brazilian Republic],” and the novella “A órbita de King Kong [The Orbit of King Kong],” José Luiz explores the imaginative re-telling of history by combining historical events with faux biographies based on real lives. The result is one that captivates readers and invites them to project themselves into the character’s experiences.
